FLEXIBLE ENDOSCOPIC ASSESSMENT FOR PATIENT CLINICAL COMPETENCY

INTERMEDIATE PROFESSIONAL LEVEL
This is a three-day clinical FEES competency training conducted at your location. The prerequisite for clinicians attending this onsite training requires written proof that they have attended a two-day Introduction to FEES course within one year.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Participant upon completion, will perform supervised normal passes (in the classroom, a minimum of twenty-five passes will be performed).
2. Describe a minimum of two differences between modified barium swallow, and a flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing procedure.
3. Participant will identify normal versus an abnormal swallow.
4. Identify landmark structures in the function of the swallow.
5. Participant will accurately identify vocal fold mobility and integrity.
6. Identify the risks, indications and contraindications, of the flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing.
7. Participant will perform three patient Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) procedures, with supervision.
8. Identify bolus preparation and selection of liquids and foods.
9. Carry out with supervisor, the levels of pooling, pocketing, penetration aspiration of foods and liquids, during the Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing procedures.
10. Participant will identify three compensatory strategies in the patient report.
11. Participant will complete three FEES clinical reports with supervision.
