TWO-DAY FLEXIBLE ENDOSCOPIC ASSESSMENT OF SWALLOWING PATIENT CLINICAL COMPETENCY

INTERMEDIATE PROFESSIONAL LEVEL

This is a two-day clinical FEES competency training conducted at your location.

Prerequisite: Clinicians attending must provide written proof that they have attended a two-day introductory FEES course and have completed a minimum of twenty-five normal passes.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

1. Participants will identify a normal versus an abnormal swallow.

2. Participants will identify landmark structures in the function of the swallow.

3. Participants will accurately identify vocal fold mobility and integrity.

4. Participant will perform three patient Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) procedures, with supervision.

5. Participants will identify bolus preparation and selection of liquids and foods.

6. Under supervision, participants will identify the levels of pooling, pocketing, penetration, and aspiration of foods and liquids during a FEES procedure.

7. Participants will identify three compensatory strategies.

8. Participants will identify the risks, indications, and contraindications of the FEES procedure.

9. Participants will complete three FEES clinical reports with supervision.
